The Gift That Keeps On Giving

As I wrote earlier, there's a lot to unpack in Graham's Myth vs. Fact Talking Point column in last Friday's Collegian. Today, let's take a look at his opening sentence.
An author once said, "I believe that imagination is stronger than knowledge -- myth is more potent than history."
One expects a university president to be well-read and to quote from, Homer, Virgil-hell, the football coach quotes Virgil-Socrates, Hume, Locke, Sartre, etc...... . So then, who issued this unattributed quote? It was Robert Fulghum, the middlebrow author of "All I Really Need To Know I Learned in Kindergarten". Here's the full quote in all of its saccharine glory.
I believe that imagination is stronger than knowledge - myth is more potent than history - dreams are more powerful than facts - hope always triumphs over experience - laughter is the cure for grief - love is stronger than death.
Once again Graham reveals that he doesn't have the intellectual chops one expects, or at least hopes, to find in a university president.
