They Don't Do Governing, But They Do Agitprop Like a Pro

The news yesterday was about a confrontation between US warships and Iranian speedboats in the Straits of Hormuz. The US isn't filing a formal protest which means that it really wasn't a significant event. Nonetheless, the Bush administration continues to pimp the story.
"This is a very volatile area and the risk of an incident escalating is real," U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates said. "It is a reminder that there is a very unpredictable government in Tehran."
Note that Gates was careful not to say that it was a serious incident. He only said that such incidents might escalate. But the take home message from Gates is that,"It is a reminder that there is a very unpredictable government in Tehran." That strongly suggests that a minor event has been turned into agitprop by the Bush/Cheney administration to help Bush make the case for isolating Iran while he is in the Middle East.

And today Reuters helps out.
Bush hopes to enlist Arab support to help contain U.S. foe Iran, a goal underscored by a confrontation between American and Iranian vessels in the Strait of Hormuz over the weekend.
Mission Accomplished.
