Here Comes the Sun

State Representative Tim Mahoney (D-Fayette) plans on introducing his open records law this Wednesday He has signed up 36 co-sponsors, but currently there are no House leaders amongst the co-sponsors. Here is what he has to say about the failure of House Majority Leader Bill DeWeese (C-Greene) to become a co-sponsor.

“He said he would be the biggest pusher of reform in the House; he'd be the No. 1 reformer,” Mahoney said. “He's talking the talk, but he's not walking the walk.”

Let's see if DeWeese tries to block this bill or water it down.

On the Senate side Republican Leader Dominic Pileggi has also promised a new open records law, but it is significantly weaker than the bill which Mahoney will introduce. Mahoney's bill would give the public the presumed right to see publicly held records, while Pileggi's bill would require that a citizen prove that a record should be made public.

Contact your representative and senator and tell them you want them to support the Mahoney bill and not the Pileggi bill.
